Jordan was born on July 3, 2014. His early life was marked by a significant health challenge that we didn’t see coming. His first seizure occurred on October 16, 2014, leading to a series of uncontrollable seizures until November 1, 2014. After an incredibly difficult and intense few weeks, doctors diagnosed Jordan with a seizure disorder of unknown cause.

At Jordan’s last neurology appointment, doctors delivered encouraging news! They confirmed that Jordan was developing healthily and saw no reason why he wouldn’t grow to lead a normal life. However, they did advise against one particular activity: football.

A Love for Football

Despite the restriction, Jordan’s passion for sports has only grown over the years. His enthusiasm spans various sports, but his heart is set on football.

Jordan often shares his dream of one day playing in the NFL, bringing a smile to those around him with his unwavering confidence and humor!

The Camaraderie Found in Football

Determined not to let his diagnosis limit his love for football, Jordan found a new way to engage with the sport: flag football.

This alternative has provided an environment for Jordan to participate in what he loves most. Through flag football, Jordan has not only honed his skills but also built a supportive community of friends, other parents, football coaches and mentors.

His flag football league has become a second family for him, offering camaraderie, encouragement, and a platform to pursue his dream.

The Diversity & Inclusivity of Football

Jordan’s story is a testament to the inclusivity of football. While traditional tackle football wasn’t an option for us, the existence of various forms of the game, like flag football, ensures that everyone can find a way to participate and fall in love too.

Football comes in many shapes and sizes- including flag, touch, and even virtual (check them out here and learn more about why football is for everyone). Each of these formats allow children to engage in the sport in the way that suits their abilities and circumstances.

The Lessons & Opportunities Taught Through Football

Jordan’s journey highlights the importance of adaptability and wide range of opportunities within the world of football.

His experience shows that with determination and the right support, everyone can find a way to be included in the sports they love.

Jordan’s passion and resilience feel inspiring, reminding me that there is always a way to achieve our dreams, even if the path looks a little different from what we originally envisioned.
